shapes - compare groups

we look at the effect arranging shapes in different ways creates a different feeling

AN ENVIRONMENT CAN FEEL BALANCED WITH DIFFERENT GROUPS OF SHAPES.

ONE LONE SHAPE WILL GIVE EMPHASIS TO THAT OBJECT - BUT CAN BE BALANCED BY SEVERAL IN A GROUP ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Many Italian buildings have the shapes of architectural features, such as windows and arches distributed evenly on the façade to give a feeling of stability.

This is a feature especially seen in Renaissance architecture.

Although their are some details which are different, both these paintings are balanced. Just as in the building above there is not a significant emphasis. They are calm to look at.

There is a similar colour and pattern and rhythm with each of the shapes on each side of the piece.

Leonie and Jeanene have placed a grid over their images.

Although the image behind is arranged in a random way, the grid formalises each square.

Each square becomes part of the group, making the whole image feel connected in another dimension.

These 3 images show how shapes can be arranged randomly to formally.

Each has a different feel.
