JEANENE HYLES

Interior designer, visual story teller, and founder of A DESIGN EXCURSION

Jeanene is an Interior Designer who has worked mostly in the Interior Architectural field, and teaching in adult education.

She has used her manual drafting skills, furniture design, colour concepts and creative designs for wall paper to carpets. This allows for interesting artworks and statement pieces to be created recently .

She has been exposed to so many variables and learning environments, which she uses in her design work. These are expressed in different mediums from fine art to forms of craft.

Her passion for education and Australian made has evolved, supporting those on social media and gathering in a group of like minded people.

Her artwork is inspired by the nature around her. The Gold Coast hinterland being one.

The Gold Coast beaches also inspire her.

As a designer, she often creates paintings to co-ordinate with her crochet work.

Have fun finding the animals she 'hides' in her landscapes!

In 2015, Jeanene registered the business A DESIGN EXCURSION and produced a website promoting designers and artists.

Continuing to network with Australian producers, fine artists, designers, craftsmen and manufactures, opening the online shop in 2016.

She successfully entered the d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast – in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and a finalist in 2023 and 2024.

A great exhibition each year!

She usually selects a feature of the Gold Coast to paint on a postcard sized card. She has exhibited in Myrtle Beach USA in 2020, Cheltenham England in 2021, York England in 2022,  The Pipe Shop in North Vancouver, BC. Canada in 2023 and Texas in 2024.

In 2024 she participated in the Incognito art exhibition raising money for artists in Australia. Artists are not revealed until the new owner sees the information on the back!

She enjoys creating a box of dolls house decor pieces, with a theme. These are 1:6 for Barbie sized dolls or 1:12 for traditional sized houses.

She has created patterns to make a cardboard or balsawood beds, encouraging exploration and development.

Jeanene was one of over a hundred Gold Coast volunteers who created 2 Urchins as outdoor sculptures for the Commonwealth Games, on the Gold Coast in 2018.

These crochet pieces were designed by CHOI+SHINE ARCHITECTS, an internationally awarded art and design studio established by Jin Choi and Thomas Shine - click on the image to see more about them.

All the pieces were crocheted with white cord by 100s of the community. They were then sewn together by more volunteers. And stretched on to a wire frame.

The Swell Sculpture co-ordinated and erected the piece. They have a festival each year on the Gold Coast.
